Urban tui (and bellbirds)

Tui and bellbirds in the city

Dunedin is the only main centre to have strong populations of both New Zealand honeyeaters. Both species have been caught and colour-banded in a Wakari garden each autumn since 2009. Banded tuis are often reported from sugar-water feeders across the city.

In this talk Dr Murray Efford will summarise some of the banding results from the last nine years.

These are among the most conspicuous and popular of our native birds, but we have only a sketchy understanding of their populations and key mysteries remain.
