Ark in the Park
As well as actively managing several of its own reserves, Forest & Bird works in partnership on a number of public reserves and parks, such as Ark in the Park. Forest & Bird members work to help restore this park in the Waitakere Ranges to its former glory through extensive pest control that protects native birds and other native animals from introduced pests such as rats, possums and stoats. North island robin, whitehead, kokako and hihi have all been successfully reintroduced into the 2000 hectare park. More
Forest & Bird owns nearly 40 nature reserves totalling more than a thousand hectares around New Zealand. Most of these reserves are bequeathed to us and are actively managed by members, who undertake restoration work such as planting, weed-busting, pest control and reintroduction of native species.
Many of our nature reserves are accessible to the public, and contain tracks that range from short, easy walking tracks to longer tramping trails.
